Highlights from our sell out concert at The Crazy Coqs in November 2023
Bloomsday is named after Leopold Bloom, the central character of James Joyce’s famous novel Ulysses. Published in 1922 amidst much controversy. It was banned and even put on trial for obscenity in the USA. Ulysses reads like a Celtic jazz musician’s wild improvisation, a ‘stream of consciousness’.
The story follows the adventures of Leopold Leopold Bloom over the course of an ordinary day in Dublin – June 16th 1904. Maybe not quote so ordinary!
There are many references to music and songs throughout the book.
Bloomsday is celebrated in period dress, music, song and readings all over the world every year on this date.
The Boneshaker 3 perform a "Bloomsday" special on 16 June 2024.
Expect a selection of classic 1920s music from when the book was published. Alongside Dublin songs the city where all the action takes in Dublin.
